Fall in DeLand: Festivals, Manatees & Small-Town Magic in Volusia County

There's a morning in late October when Central Florida finally exhales. The humidity lifts, the air turns crisp enough for a light jacket, and Woodland Boulevard fills with the smell of coffee and something cinnamon from a bakery down the block.
In DeLand, that shift means something. This is a town that shows up for its seasons — with block parties, art festivals, county fairs, and a river full of manatees. DeLand Craft Show — September 26–27
Fall opens with makers. The DeLand Craft Show brings handmade goods to downtown for the weekend, and it's the perfect low-key way to kick off the season: wander the boulevard, find something for the entryway, grab lunch at a table on the sidewalk. It's the kind of Saturday that turns into a tradition.
Monsters on MainStreet — Saturday, October 31
DeLand's Halloween block party is the real thing. Downtown merchants hand out candy along Woodland Boulevard from 6 to 8 p.m., there's a kids' dance party, and the whole stretch fills with tiny superheroes and ghosts. It's free, it's family-friendly, and MainStreet DeLand stocks thousands of pounds of candy to make sure no one goes home empty-handed.

Volusia County Fair & Youth Show — November 5–15
Eleven days of rides, funnel cakes, livestock shows, live music, and lights on the midway at the Volusia County Fairgrounds on East New York Avenue. It's been a Volusia County tradition since 1923, and it's the sort of thing that becomes a childhood memory — the Ferris wheel at dusk, a ribbon on a prize steer, a shared bag of kettle corn on the walk back to the car.
Free parking, and it's a short drive from DeLand.
50th Annual Fall Country Jamboree — November 7–8, Barberville
Twenty minutes north in Barberville, the Pioneer Settlement hosts one of Florida's longest-running heritage festivals — and 2026 marks its 50th anniversary.
Expect blacksmithing, cane grinding and boiling, spinning, weaving, and woodworking demonstrations. Expect stage after stage of folk and bluegrass, jam tents where anyone with an instrument can join in, and a juried arts-and-crafts show. Expect a corn boil and biscuits with gravy from the summer kitchen.
It's Florida history you can hear, taste, and touch.
Volusia County Veterans Day Parade — Saturday, November 14
Downtown DeLand hosts the county's Veterans Day Parade, and it's one of those mornings that reminds you what a small town does well. Neighbors line the boulevard, kids wave flags, and the whole community turns out to say thank you. Bring a chair, bring a coffee.
Manatee Season Begins at Blue Spring State Park — Mid-November
This is the one that makes visitors gasp and locals grin.
Starting in mid-November, hundreds of manatees migrate into the spring run at Blue Spring State Park in nearby Orange City, where the water holds a steady 72 degrees year-round. You watch from a third-of-a-mile boardwalk as they drift below you in water so clear it barely looks real — mothers with calves, gentle giants stacked shoulder to shoulder on the coldest days.
Tip for future residents: the colder the snap, the more manatees show up. And the park often hits capacity on winter weekends, so arrive right at the 8 a.m. opening. It's a 15-minute drive from DeLand — close enough for a spontaneous Saturday morning.
Fall Festival of the Arts — November 21–22
The crown jewel of the season. Woodland Boulevard closes to traffic and transforms into an open-air gallery, with over 150 juried artists from across the country showing paintings, glass, sculpture, jewelry, photography, ceramics, wood, and fiber.
Add live music on multiple stages, poetry slams in Chess Park, street performers, youth art activities, and every downtown restaurant, pub, and wine bar spilling onto the sidewalk. Admission is free.
Hours: Saturday, Nov. 21, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. | Sunday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
